The past few years in the United States have seen EV sail. At the end of 2023, EVs were 8.1% of all vehicles sold in the U.S. in 2023, up from 5.9% in 2022.

Despite these promising numbers, automakers are noticing demand slowing and responding accordingly.

The top ranking EV pickup trucks in the U.S. the Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet Silverado EV, the Rivian R1T, and the GMC Hummer EV Pickup.

Despite its popularity, Ford announced that weekly production of the Ford F-150 Lightning will be cut to half capacity for 2024. A spokeswoman for the company commented that Ford’s production will continue to mirror consumer demand.

General Motors, who owns GMC and Chevrolet, has also scaled back their plans for EV production in 2024. This decision was made on account of lower consumer demand.

Despite temporary reductions in EV pickup production at the start of 2024, demand is expected to pick back up and the pick-up will remain a mainstay of American roads and culture more generally.
